The Ottawa Senators have made one excellent trade and one questionable trade this offseason, and NHL Insider Frank Seravalli has criticized them for the latter.
Following another disappointing season, the Senators started the summer on a high note by acquiring Linus Ullmark from the Boston Bruins, a move widely regarded as a steal.

However, their next big trade was met with much less enthusiasm. The team traded defenseman Jakob Chychrun to the Washington Capitals, failing to get a first-round pick in return despite having given up a significant package to acquire him less than two years ago.

Nick Jensen and a 2026 third-round pick.
This trade has been widely criticized, and Frank Seravalli shared his thoughts, expressing confusion over the decision.
"I thought that Jakob Chychrun trade was the move of the offseason," revealed Seravalli. "Someone is gonna need to explain that to me from an Ottawa perspective. I don't understand it at all and I've had a week to think about it and I still can't wrap my brain around it."
"A couple of years ago a first and two seconds, Nick Jensen?" said Seravalli. "I understand you're trading left shot for right shot and you're always gonna be at a disadvantage, but that's the best deal you could make for Jakob Chychrun? There's no way that's the best deal they could possibly make."
